i'd just use a j-cloth & warm water, no soap or similar products.

whatever u do, just take care around the silicone seals...and as said, just a good scrub, nothing ott is required

thank you for your replies i was worried about any viruses the previous fish may have ha.gonna read all i can about fishless cycling now.

I always use a weak bleach solution to sterilize tanks. Add 1 part bleach to 10 parts water and let it sit overnight. Empty the tank of the solution the next day and let it completely dry. When you refill the tank use a double dose of dechlorinator to be sure. As stated, be careful around the seals.
