I live near the Indian River Lagoon where we have these lovely "bushes" of red agar seaweed.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with hosting seaweeds for decor...and if we bring some home what precautions we should take when introducing the plants?

If anyone has links to websites that respond to this topic, it would be much appreciated! :)

I have tons of sea weed in my tanks, you need to be carefull that it does not over take the tank due to its quick growth. Oh, one other thing, once you put it in your tank, dont release it back into the wild. Dry it and burn it.

My only concern about hosting local seaweed is that they might be storing toxins or nutrients that its extracted out of the water. Aquarium Caulerpa is well known for its instability and when it crashes the amount of nutrients that gets thrown back into the water is frightening. This is with an aquarium algae that has spent its life in a tank,. Algaes that are exposed to the shoreline may well have even more sinister suprises.
