Hi, just a quick question!

Is it ok to put real seashells taken from the sea myself in my betta tank?

The shells are quite old but very clean (left in boiling water, no signs of mould etc)

Was just wondering if they would be ok to put in my tank?

Thanks!

they do have an affect on the water chemistry i ve always been told no as the salt will still be in the shell as well but its mainy the water thing imo

thats ok all shells raise the ph of the water :)

Would that be a huge problem if the OP's pH is fairly low? If the shells raise the pH a bit, it wouldn't make that much of a difference, IMHO.

Obviously, if it raised the pH from say 7.8 to 8.8, that would be different, but 6.8 to 7.8, gradually, wouldn't be a huge issue, I don't think.

Haven't had chance to test ph levels as of yet, will be doing so after a trip to the pet shop to get all the final bits and pieces before my Betta :)

Thanks for the advice!
