my lfs stocks freshwater seahorses. does anyone have or know much about these?

FW Seahorses? Are you sure? Could it be because they are babies, and slowly need to be acclimated to marine? Hmmm, Im interested in seeing if there are really such things as FW seahorese.

DB :fish:

the have the regular marine ones, and these ones are smaller and in their own tank. They are labelled freshwater sea horses and have an information page about them. i cant remember what it said though.

the seahorse that goes under the common name of freshwater seahorse is the Hippocampus aimei.

i can't find much information on them but there are freshwater and brakish species of seahorse

They are extremely delicate. They make Discus look like Zebra Danios. IMO, only very experienced keepers should even try to own seahorses.

has anyone here ever tried?

i know im certainly not experienced enough to attempt it, but i am very interested in them.

Apparently none can survive in water with absolutely no salt?
did you not read my first reply, after some quick research there are about 13 species that can survive perfectly in freshwatewr (no salt) there's another few that can live in brackish (some salt) and the rest live in saltwater (lots of salt!!)

Ahh, sorry, lol.

What level of upkeep do these freshwater seahorses need?

Do the optimum conditions have to be kept at all times for survival?

Sounds like an intresting thing for one of the members here to try out. I would love having info on some of this. I think i'll do a quick search.

EDIT: Well after doing my search it says "there are no species of freshwater seahorses, they only live in ocean water, and occasionally in estuaries."

Paul can you give me a link to where you got your info?

even tank bred ones are delicate. This is not a fish to try without extensive research
