also in the tank put plenty of corals and such for them to hang on to. and they cannot have very fast water movment.
This is where problems set in. Sea horses are not naturally found in reefs. They are found in lagoon areas where water is far slower.
If a seahorse was to wander into a reef area it would probably be smashed against the reef as the swell would be too much to cope with.

Placing corals (usually hard corals as they seem ideal for the job) is placing teh coral at risk. You have to have a low circulation for the seahorses to be able to swim openly or it simply wont leave its anchor and catch food. If the tank circulation is low then the coral willsuffer as they need high circulation. Hard corals need this as they produce a mucus to help protect them from the suns UV light. But itoo much mucus will burn them so the flow needs to be high to help keep this mucus under control. Soft corals ned fairly high flow becuase they sometimes need to shed layers of skin. If the flow is low thenthey can suffocate their polyps with trapped skin and end up dying.
Coral also are designed by nature to feed in the flows of the reef so a low flow area would not suit them.
So placing seahorses in with corals is risky at best.

Seahorses will do far better in an environment they are suited too. Mangrove roots and grasses are far better. Mangroves are easily obtained and also help keep tank nutrients low.

Personally i would not attempt keeping them. They are extremely delicate and difficult to keep.

Kelp would be good. It does grow huge though (not sure of the different varieties of kelp). It doesnt need fast waterflow, kelp grows in deep water where the flow is not as furious as reef areas.
