Sorry, I really didn't know where else to put this. Sea monkeys.. not exactly fish but living creatures. I have a spare 2.5 gallon lying around and I asked someone what I could put in it that was easy to care for. They replied: A colony of sea monkeys. I already know where I can buy them, but is it worth the money? I know that they're not expensive at all and super easy to care for, but I asked someone if they were worth it and she said: "NO, not at all. They don't live long, they only live for a month or two that's it. If you want to get something, get a snail or betta." I CAN'T get a snail or betta. Soo... are sea monkeys worth buying or not?

Thanks,
B.

Aren't they just brine shrimp?

get them and feed them to your fish

I personally wouldn't bother with them, as I don't see much interesting about them, nor would I really get any enjoyment out of them....
Could you get shrimp?

I've kept Sea Monkeys three times. Things you should know about them:
1. They don't look anything like the advertising picture. They look like a tiny pulsating feather with two eyes hovering at the end of it.
2. Despite advertising claims that they will interact with their surroundings, they don't, unless there's a blob of food there. They just swim round and round in circles.
3. They can actually live a reasonably long time and reproduce, but they are just as likely to all start dropping dead for no reason.
4. They are almost identical to the brine shrimp you can get as live food for your fish. Technically they are a different hybrid species, but they look exactly the same. You could, if you get bored with them, feed them to fish.

@Alm0stAwesome: LOL, I no longer keep fish. I still HAVE fish as pets, but they don't live with me anymore. They're now living with my cousin. :)

@McCool: Could I get a shrimp... I highly doubt it. My mother isn't a fan of fish (unlike me). I made an unwise choice at first, picking out my fish. I paid the price. She said: "Can we not keep fish anymore? They're not very interesting, let's just have a cat and rodent, OK?" I asked for a snail a few weeks back, just one snail!! Her response: "Ahhhh... why do you like aquatic animals so much? Why do you want a snail or shrimp?! Kid, what's it with you and those water creatures?" Clearly, she doesn't understand the hobby. I could get one while I'm out shopping with my step sister, but I would get blamed for it. :(

Bugdozer: LOL, they're just a useless blob swimming around the tank? Sounds like it! ;) *snickers*
LOL, most likely if I got bored, I'd let them die without food. Boring, they sound...

Thank you so much!! :D

Thanks anyways guys. :) My friend suggested get Triops instead, they last much longer. Thanks! :)

They ARE? I was told they were different species... my other fish folks said try triops, you'll have a better chance with them surviving...

Sea monkeys are Triops.

This is nonsense. Triops are a completely different species and don't even look much like Sea Monkeys. They aren't even from the same family in the way they are classified.

I usd to keep Triops... I loved them : ) I think they're great the way they swim around without a care in the world, I really could watch them all day. Yeah, they don't live long but mine always bred and kept going that way. I had them for years without any trouble. Fed them powdered Fishflakes and tiny bits of lettuce.

I can see how they might be seen as boring, but I really did love mine and I'd actually love to have them again : )

As far as I understand 'Seamonkeys' are Brine Shrimp. But to me Triops look like minuet Horseshoe Crabs with forked tails. They have the same 'shield' that Horseshoes do and all those legs.
