Does anyone know if it would be safe to have stainless steel screws and what not in the tank long term? I want to screw together some pieces of driftwood and want to suction some to the tank walls, will this work?

Thanks,

Tiger Lotus

Thanks a lot darkstar. That is similar to what I want to do. I love your tank by the way. Nice pieces of wood!

Thanks,

Tiger Lotus : )

most internal filters have screw in them, on the one i have, when you take the media out, the propellor housing is screwed on by 2 6mm (what looks like) stainless steel screws

stainless should be fine as long as you clean them first. the screwcumber is only a piece of stainless steel bar and that stays in your tank!!
if you are really worried about them, screw your wood together and then cover any exposed parts of the bolts with sylicone.
nath1 :good:

Stainless steel is fine in water long term. It simply doesn't rust like normal mild steel.

As 5teady stated, stainless steel screws are used in filters, as well as being used to attach driftwood to slate. I use large stainless steel screws to weigh down veggies for my plecs.
