Went back home to visit the relatives and was having coffee at my brother's when I remembered that years & years ago he had a fairly large fish tank.
I asked if he still had it and he did so I asked him if he'd sell it to me. He said he wouldn't sell it to me but he'd give it to me
so we went down into the basement and found it. I cast my eye around to see if I could spy the filter & heater but no luck. He said he'd let me know if they turned up. Turns out that after the angel fish & neons had done what they do in an uncycled tank the tank had been home to a corn snake for awhile so now it's got a mesh frame on top and reptile accessories inside.
I put the measurements through the converter and apparently it's 30 U.S. gallons. My plan had been to get a 35g as my next tank so it's not quite as big as I remembered and it's not quite what I wanted... but free is good.
When I got home I said, "Look what followed me home!" as my husband looked askance. I hope the hood, filter & heater turn up, that would be brilliant!
