I was just wondering what kinds of fish you use to school with your angels (or angel), I was planning on getting a single angel with some Apistogrammas as lower level fish with various bottom feeders. Any suggestions for top schooling fish?

Hemigrammus rhodostomus or Hemigrammus bleheri would be great... What size tank do you have?

Cherry barbs could work. As would the larger tetras like widow tetras.

It's a 30 gallon half moon tank, that's why only one angel

Angels are variable with fish as small as neons. Often they're fine, occasionally the numbers of neons slowly drop as the ambush predator does what it does.

Not really. They're most aggressive when breeding or to their own kind in cramped conditions.

My angels ate all my cardinals, I'd imagine they'd do the same to rummys. Go for a deeper bodied tetra or barb. In with mine I have black skirts/widows and also Odessa barbs (but be careful some barbs can be nippy)

Were they still small though? I would have thought Cardinals to be pretty safe near to full size

No, I had the cardinals before my angels. And my angels were still juvies when they ate them, too! My angels grew into huge fish and I would never take the chance again.

Not to mention you will nearly always have to buy juvenile tetras.

Any deeper bodied tetra, except from maybe serpaes. So Moenkhausia sp. , hyphessobrycon sp. anything that shape. Or indeed barbs like Puntius Pentazona (NOT Tetrazona a.k.a Tiger Barbs) or odessas, although be careful, most barbs prefer cooler water, tetras are probably a safer bet.

Tek oot.

What's wrong with Serpaes?  I have 6 in with my Angel and they have never had issues.

They can be very nippy, not always, but you were fortunate to get some that didn't.

Tek oot.
