Alright everyone. Here is the thing. In about a week and a half, I will be going on midterm break for 5 days. I have my 10g tank here, but I dont want to move it back and forth within 5 days. This is just to keep the stress amount on my fishes low and less carrying for me...up 4 flights. Is it okay if I leave the tank without a filter for about 5 days? or should I take it home to be safe?

Seems like your a tab bit over stocked, so you wouldn't want to take the filter away ... I moved my 10G about 20 feet, then back again. I dunno how hard it'd be to move it up 4 flights...would be easy with 2 people.

I moved some of the fish out of my tank. At the moment I have 4 Tetras and an upside down catfish.

The only thing is, would it be smart to take my filter out?

Hmhmhm....in that case....I'm sure the tetras would be ok, dunno about the bottom guys :/

No don't take it out. How would they get any oxygen? Why don't you just leave the tank their? Or do they turn the power off when their is no school? If not just leave them their and if you want you can put a vacation feeder in their (that's what I do when I'm gone for more than two days.)

stick a battery powered air pump with a sponge filter in there, theyll be fine... as long as you use lithium batterys, the pump wont die

Awesome. This weekend I will pick up a battery powered filter with a sponge filter. That would work perfect! Thanks!

Durbkat: They shut the power off, which really sucks. And If we leave anything plugged in, they charge you I think 25-50 dollars. Its cause they do power checks or something like that and if I leave something plugged in it could kill the power for the building for alittle bit.

oh ya, and by the way, if you are lucky enough to find lithiums... (GOOD ONES) prepare to pay a big price for them... unless you go to a good store then it wont be as bad.. i recomend tardian cell litiums.. cheap and last forever.. i use them in my other hobby... of nitro rc cars...

ZOOM!!!!! (65 mph rc car goes by)

On another note, I would not use a vacation feeder. In my experience they just foul up the water. They should be fine for 5 days without food.

Yeah, I've heard bad things about those.
But, then again, I left my gouramis for 3 days without food and they were realy mean to each other! :/

I always use feeders when I'm out of town for more than two or three days and it never affected the water quality before.

I travel full time for my job. I am usually away from home 2-4 days every week. I have automatic feeders on all of my tanks. (my kids two tanks as well as mine) I use the Hydor Mixo feeder and have it feed small quantity twice daily. It is especially handy with my kids tanks (29 gal community, and 20 gal tall community) as there is no risk of overfeeding. If you watch ebay, you can pick one up inexpensivly, or, in the USA at Petsmart, they are 39.00.

durbkat, are you talking about an automatic feeder or one of those things you drop in the tank and leave for several days? I'm talking about the latter, and it made my water cloudy over a period of 5 days. I would never use them again, and I've seen many people on here express the same.
