I just got a notice in the mail and there is going to be a scheduled power outage in my area
The outage is supposed to be for about 5 hours
is there any percautions I should take before the power outage happens

thanks in advance Mike

buy yourself a battery operated air pump, place it under your filter so you can keep some air flow to your filter sponges. Turn your lights off ready, cover your tank with a duvet or something to help keep the temperature up. Feed less when the power comes back on as you may well have lost some of the beneficial bacteria from your filter.
It happened to me about 2 weeks after I set up my tank! good Luck :good:

Joanne covered it the only thing I would add is don't feed at all.
Good luck.

alright everything sounds good, the only part I don't get is when joanne said place the the battery operated pump under my filter, how can I do that?
my filter is the penguin bio wheel hang on the back design
do Irun the air line into the filter?? if so where do I put it

and when I stop feeding, should I stop like on wednesday night or something

thanks Mike

Right just keep tipping some tank water on the sponges then.

5 hours won't be long enough for any kind of damage to your bacteria colony as long as the filter and bio-wheel stay wet. YOu can pour water over them as Wilder mentioned or just put them in the tank. Pouring water over them and letting it splash into the tank is probably the best solution as that will also oxidize the water.
