Hey all, i made a discovery when doing a major clean of my fry tank today, I found some really creepy (my girlfirend refuses to be in the same room as them) insects. They probably came in with some kuhli loaches I added a couple of weeks ago, but I could be wrong. I put the khulis in the fry tank for isolation (as i had no fry at the time) but one of my fish popped much sooner than expected and was eating her fry, so i didnt clean the fry tank properly after taking out the kuhlis. Its my fault really. And upon doing so today i found three of these nasty looking beasties, and im pretty sure i have less fry than I started with. I think the lesson to be learnt is always isolate your new fish.

Anyway, more out of curiosity than anything else, can anyone identify these things shown below (apologies for the bad picture my camera isnt great)

They're damselfly nymphs. They WILL catch and eat small fish.

We found one of those nasties in one of our tanks last year. Make sure to remove them as soon as you spot them. As said they will eat your babies

Hi

I too found one of them when cleaning my Betta tank. It was in the base of a new plant I had bought from Pets at Home. along with a whole bunch of tiny snails and eggs. I will be checking my plants VERY carefully in future!!

Those type of things are the reason i wash all of my new plants in ice cold water, that and an infestation of snails i managed to get last year.

They will eat fry so id get rid of it asap

lost lots of minnow / guppy and platy fry to those buggers before i even knew they were in the tank

GET THEM OUT - keep looking at the tank cos if you've got 3 i bet you got lots more - they start as tiny little larve so you might not see them for a while
