One of my platies has its scales sticking up.
No its not dropsy because the scales are on the back of the head and the stomach isn't enlarged. Shes the only fish with this condition and initially i thought it was a fungal infection but anti-fungal treatments (interpet) hasn't done anything

could it just be old age? Shes about 2 years old now.

NO3 <50mg/l
NO2 0
GH >10d
KH 3d
pH 6.4

if it was dropsy the fish would be dead by now
shes had it for over a month now and no other fish have been affected

1 plec
3 corys
and the rest are platies

shes eating and acting normally and only crashes into the glass when i come to do my weekly water change.$ shes only in a small 60l tank

i've got a new 125l tank. just waiting for the silicone to dry and didn't want to move her over if she has a disease on her

Any white edges around the scales.
Scales raising has knocked them on oranments in the tank, parasites, to bacterial infection.
She shouldn't be banging into the tank glass when you are doing a water change.

Are the eyes of the fish sinking in or sticking out, any red fins on the fish or ulcers.
What colour is her poo when she goes to the toilet.

I have known scales to raise on the head and it still turned out to be dropsy.
Keep a look out for flicking and rubbing.
What other fish do you have in the tank as salt will help if you have no scaless fish in there.

i'll keep an eye out on her and move her to a hospital tank tomorrow.
i#ve got
1 pleco
3 corys
and 4 adult platies and 6/7 baby platies

Ok, then you can add some salt one tablespoon to 5gal with you move her to the hospital tank.
Good luck.
