Ive read that Dropsy is when a fish is bloated for any number of reasons, is this a common finding?

Would the scales of an over-fed fish stick out ever-so slightly?

Ive read so much about all these illnesses I'm afraid I'm getting too sensitive and complicating a really simple problem.

feed some choped up cooked pea and starve the fish for a day or two. repeat this if the bloating doesnt go away.
pineconing is very obvious. the scales would literally look like a pinecone, not just a little bit raised. slimecoat disorders and bloat can cause lifting of scales. dropsy is a full blown pinecone look.
try the peas first but be aware that even if it were dropsy, it is much more likely than not that there is nothing you could have done anyway as dropsy is very difficult to cure (as it is caused by any number of reasons).
good luck

loraxchick,

Thanks for being my voice of reason!

Ive started the pea diet, 2 days no food, crushed pea and repeat. How long should i go on before looking into other problems?

The greedy #29### still tries to eat just about anything but isn't pooping.

Hmmm
