Rather than hijack ICEEGRL's topic I have a question which is not unrelated.

I have just ordered a device called a Scale Wizard, not for aquatic purposes but just to cut down the amount of scale in the pipes and on the shower screen etc etc. I'd initially researched this a while ago (before I got the tanks) and it sounds like the dogs b's.

This is the blurb from the website

"Once connected, it emits a computer modulated signal which actually changes the properties of the calcium crystals which normally form scale.

The electronic disturbance of these crystals stops build up of scale by preventing them from adhering to each other. Water solubility is increased and therefore, existing scale dissolves back into the water and is gradually removed.

There are no chemical changes to the water content which will retain beneficial minerals and taste the same."

The website is at http://www.scalewizard.co.uk/index.htm if you want to look properly.

For some reason it didn't occur to me that it might effect the water that the fish live in.

Could anybody hazard a guess as to what the effect might be?

One of the benefits would be that it would probably prevent limescale accumilating on the tank lid and get this...even eventually dissolving the stuff that is already there!

I would like to know if there are any down sides though, if so I will have to think carefully about where to site this and if necessary leave a feed off pipe unprotected specifically for the tank water.

Cheers

Just to let you know I've emailed the manufacturer with the question on safety for my tanks. Whether they will know or not, or in fact will offer an unbiased answer remains to be seen.
Anyway, as it is a weekend I don't suppose I'll get an answer til next week, but I'll post it here if I get it.

Hope it works, it seems to be a handy little gadget.

Cheers
