After supporting a snail breeding colony in the thousands, I have finally found the key to getting rid of them. The snails I'm talking about specifically are the trumpet snails. I wish I had a picture of how bad it was. But basically when I would turn on the lights in the evening, my logs and glass would be COVERED with thousands of snails! I tried everything, including trying a chemical "Had-a-snail" which didn't work. Even my team of 6 clown loaches didn't touch them. Anyways, I was at the LFS last week, and I came across a fish called "Red Hump Eartheater" which looked very nice. After doing research to test for compatibility, I went back and purchased two, a male and female. 4 days later, to my surprise, I turn on the lights in the evening to watch the new fish, and there was almost no more snails left! 8 days later, I find it really really hard to find any remaining snails! The Eartheaters are really peaceful too, they dont bother anybody and vice versa. Just thought I'd share that for all the people who have been tortured with snail infestations like myself!

Just a word of caution - just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're not there...

... I had a similar problem, and also had clown loaches on the job. Difference is, they seemed to work. When the loaches went in, there were maybe around 100 snails and withind days, none. After a month or so, I rehoused the loaches, and overnight the snails reappeared - and there were hundreds and hundreds of them. They'd never gone - they just hid away from the loaches.. lol.

You may well be ok, but its worth searching everywhere just to make sure... :)

I am busy crushing snails as I see them. I could not reach the bottom of a plant at the back of my 2ft deep tank so I pulled it out to get the snails off the leaves. They were hiding in the roots of the plant! I crushed them all and put the plant back (used a battery operated gravel cleaner to push the plant back in). So that's one of the places they hide, just in case you don't know. (I didn't). :)
