I couldn't believe it! This is the first time we've had egglaying fish spawn in a year!!!

Anyway, I was watching the tank and noticed the male and female swimming together, something they never do. Then I saw the female lay some eggs in java moss witht he male trying to fertilize them.

Only problem is they chose Java Moss that got stuck in the filter intake so the eggs don't have much chance :( and I saw my big bad female opaline gourmi stick her nose in there a few seconds after. She loves platy fry and it seems she loves eggs now!

Oh well, I'll setup a spawning mop or something so I can save a few eggs :)

the only tank i could use is the platy growout tank

if i put them in there, they'll eat them all

If I do catch some eggs on a mop, i'll just drop the mop in that tank instead

I would be inclined to move the female first for conditioning purposes. Place her in your spare tank and make a couple of acrylic (100% synthetic yarn) spawning mops attached to a cork, an air driven sponge filter is beneficial. Feed her well on livefood and flake. Then introduce the male. Aplochelius lineatus eggs are much larger than most killifish eggs and are easily spotted. The also can be handled much easier. You can either pick the eggs daily remove the adults after a certain period of days. The fry should hatch in or around 11-14 days and are large enough to take newly hatched brineshrimp straight away.

if i just put the mop in the tank and check it out once in a while?

I don't want to breed them all the time, just get a few fry once in a while as these fish only live for 2 years
