ok, I had 3 columbian shark (white tip catfish), and 2 days ago one died.... and now another is not moving half as much, sticking to the bottom, and i have recently realized that it has blood inside it's tail fin and a white stripe around it that just appeared yesterday, the stripe starts at the cenrer of it's body and goes around it and it is about 1/4 of the sharks body length..... it hasn't been moving at all latley and i don't know what to do! none of the other fish in my tank seem to be affected. the coolumbians are the largest in the tank, so i don't think it got attacked.... they seem to school together.

Need to no size of tank in gallons, how many fish in all are in the tank and which type, water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, the tail sounds like hamorage can't spell that septicemia, the stripe what colour is it.

Aeromonas hydrophila (Bacterial Hemorrhagic Septicemia)

Gram negative motile rods

Effects many freshwater species and usually is associated with stress and overcrowding.

The clinical signs and lesions are variable. The most common finding is hemorrhage in skin, fins, oral cavity and muscles with superficial ulceration of the epidermis. Occasionally cavitary ulcers (similar to A. salmonicida) are observed. Exophthalmus and ascites are commonly observed. Splenomegaly and swollen kidneys are common. Histologically, multifocal areas of necrosis in the spleen, liver, kidney and heart with numerous rod shaped bacteria are observed.

Diagnosis is rendered by culturing the organism from affected animals: Remember this is a common water saprophyte with a great variation in virulence in serotypes.

Disease is transmitted via contaminated water or diseased fish.

The stripe that goes round the body does it look like a saddle.

are you aware that colombian sharks Arius seemani are a brackish fish?
keeping them in freshwater will lead to all sorts of problems and eventually death.

I was thinking that too wolf. many years ago my lfs sold me one and it died pretty quickly. they didnt tell me it was a brackish fish
