Tank levels are all perfect. Gold fish is having trouble swimming and he seems to only be able to float up then swim back down. He looks tyred! i hope he wont die, cause my girlfriend is really fond of Shooter. Help me help her.

Only thing i have changed is that i added another CT betta
that makes 3 bettas 1 big goldfish ryukin, 1 lion head, 2 comets.

i have aqua salt, melafix, quick cure, and a few other treatments. let me know if i can use one.

ive attatched a pic of him turned upside down, he does this for about 10 seconds then tryes to swim again.

i dont know about goldfish deaseses this is our first one.

thanks

heres the pic... please help

Need water stats in Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and PH. What size tank is he in?

amonia nitrates nitrites all 0 ph is 7.6

the tank size is 20 gallon tall and hes in there with 3 bettas and a nother lion head and 2 small comets. the tankmates are all normal.

Sort of sounds like swim bladder disease.. one of my bettas has it right now.. I'm just treating with pimafix and keeping the water clean.

anyone else know soething else? it really does seem like swim blatter but does anyone know how to treat. im going to go ahead and do a water change, 30% anyways. im not going to do anything for an hour and just watch him. could it be from the new betta.....i did buy him from watmart!. but hes awsome. ill go get a pic.

it does sound like swim bladder. i've never had to deal with it so i don't know exactly how it's generally dealt with, but you should be able to find information online.

however your tank does have some problems. it's way way over stocked. Goldfish get big and the general rule of thumb for keeping them (at least in this forum) is 20 gallons for the first goldy, then an additional 10 gallons for each additional fish. Also, male bettas really should not be kept together. bettas also are tropical fish and need to be kept at tropical temperatures (about 72-80F), while goldfish are coldwater and shouldn't be kept at temperatures exceeding the low 70s.

it looks like a pretty severe case of swim bladder so i don't know the guy's chances, but i hope he does. he's a pretty boy.

[edit] swim bladder disease doesn't spread like that. it's more a symptom of something else. It can be parasites or overfeeding, or inadequate diet, even stress. you really need to try to diagnose the cause if you can.

lol the male bettas are separated. they are expensive fish i wouldnt do that to them. the temp is at 76 right now. no heater and the fish are all under 3 inches. the comets are going into my moms pong once there a little bigger so it will only be 2 goldfish.

-lol- okay, good. you'd be surprised how many people try to keep more than one betta together without dividers.

Basically swimbladder, as has already said is a symptom rather than one disease. It can be caused by:
*injury
*constipation
*bacterial infection
or it can be the last stage in almost any disease (like heartfailure in humans)

If your fish is injured there may be nothing you can do; also, if he is dying from something else. But I would certainly do as vancouver suggests and try treating for constipation by feeding him a pea or two. It can't do any harm. If this doesn't help within a day or two, you could try treatment for internal bacteria.

Yea I'm doing both.. already treated with pimafix, and am about to go upstairs and waste a whole bag of peas just to take one out to feed to mr betta.
