is it ok to use sand from the beach in your fish tank? my friend is bringing hoem white sand from flordia. imma use it in my mbuna tank if its ok...

I would say no. You don't really know what is in the sand. I would stick with some kind of store bought sand, why not, it's cheap and looks good.

I would say yes. Just rinse it well with hot water - and if you want to keep fish diseases away, boil it or put it into oven.

I would say no
Apart from the legal issues what about pollution issues?
be safe and don't trust it!

legal issues?

you cant get into trouble for taking sand... if that was true they would arrest anyone what wore clothing out of the beach without nude showering cause we all take with us one way or another... lol

some beaches are the property of the local council or indeed private property.
In the uk it is illegal to take quantities of sand from beaches without permission from the owner.

Section 6 theft act 1968
definition of theft; to permantly deprive someone or community of their property.

Those leagal issues. :p

Well I use sand from a beach and it works well. Just make sure you clean it.

The sand in a fish store must have been taken from a beach somewhere as well right?

I use beach sand in a couple of tanks.

Just make sure you sterilize it. Washing with hot water just wont cut it. You have to either boil it or bleach it for effective disinfection.

thanks for the posts guys =)
