I've got black gravel in one a 60l tank that I'm wanting to change to sand as I've got pygmy cories now. I've got sand in my 48l tank and whenever I do a water change all the sand gets moved around and all the plastic plants get uprooted and I end up having to rescape it.
How do I get the sand to stay put? I've tried putting a plate at the bottom when I'm pouring the water in but the water flow ends up making the plate sink into the sand

You just have to pour more carefully! I always build a cave with a nice flat bit of rock on top in the corner of the tank that I refill from ;)

I use a plastic lid that i got with my jbl proflora substrate (any plastic lid of a certain size would do), due to it being plastic it floats an if i pour on the centre it displaces the water so not to disturb the sand in my tank.
