Might sound like a silly question and i apologize in advance if it is but is it possible to use children's play sand in home tanks or has it got to be purpose aquarium sand?? Thanks
Thanks for the reply. I thought i would ask first before making a mistake and the main reason i ask is because i have cories (6 sterbai's) and since joining this forum have seen a lot of people saying sand is a lot better for them. If i had known this before hand i wouldn't of got gravel and had gone straight for sand
Your stebai's will be so much happier. What I really love is, after a water change, all the sand is nice and smooth, and when you come down in the morning, it's all dimpled where they've been rooting around in the night; they do it during the day too, it's lovely to watch
I'm looking forward to changing it already.. should be able to pick the sand up tomorrow, get it all cleaned then and shouldn't be long before i can add it to the tank. I love watching all the fish in my tank, its a 46 gal which is in my bedroom so the tank looks a lot bigger than it actually is nothing better than turning off the main light, switching on the tank light and watching them all. The tank has only been set up around 4 weeks so its all new to me and I'm loving it
If you have access to sand-blasting sand (at the home improvement store) it's much, much cleaner than play sand and only needs one quick rinse. It's also a lot more uniform in size. My cories will actually dive into it!
