Sand

I am taking down my 30 gallon and setting up a 10 and 20 gallon. can i use the sand that is in the tank right now?

I would not as it will be full on Nitrates and will cause you more heartche than its worth

so its not ok to use in the same water like transfer it and and 20 gallons to 20 gallon and some sand and 10 gallons to 10 gallon.
What if i washed it?

Sorry not saying you cannot but used sand seems to be full of nitrates not sure how effective washing would be I would only ever use fresh sand as I have had bad experiences with used sand.

just tested my tank and my nitrate is 5

well i used the old sand anyways didnt have time to get new sand and needed to take down the 30 gallon today
