ive heard that you can use childrens play sand in tropical aquariums is the true and would it be good for plants to grow in sorry if i posted in wrong place thanks for any help

You can use sand in your tank, you just need to wash it thoroughly (sp?) to get most of the dust and small particles out so that your water isn't really cloudy.

If your growing plants then you'd need to add some laterite below the sand. Sand on its own wont provide any nutrients to your plants. Although you may be able to grow some hardy plants in a solely sand substrate.
