Do you put a layer of gravel under the sand when using sand as you main substrate?

I think a lot of the snd would just fall though the gavel, leaving you with sand on the bottom and gravel on the top.

Yup, I figure over time the sand will sink below the gravel die to fish (and you) stirring it up. When this happens it'll be annoying cuz gravel needs vaccumming and sand will get sucked up.

very good point. I decided no layer of gravel. How long does it take for the sand to settle? Im guessing i'll just wait overnight see what its like tommorow

I've seen some peolpe add a little gravel to their sand for "features" but I'd keep it small scale to avoid the very thing that LOJ and CS mentioned. I'm liking sand more and more every day.

Does anybody know if you are supposed to encourage water movement when letting sand settle? I have a pump whic craetes current plus 2 filters...but they are off right now

Never did I just let it settle overnight
