Sand Substrate

Im off into town and am looking at getting some argos play sand for my tank, to switch the substrate from gravel to sand, would this be ok for plants ?? i only have basic plants, nothing difficult, a few anubias and some amazon sword.

My plants do fine in sand, although the 'greedier' ones, like Amazon swords, I usually put a handulful of gravel around the roots so the fish poop can get down to them. I'm not sure if it's really neccessary, but it works for me
