Hi, I'm setting up my new tank next week and wanted a bit of advice on sand as a substrate.
I'm hoping to get some dwarf chain loaches (who apparantly like sand) and I've always thought it looks quite nice so thought I'd give it a go.
Thing is - I was wondering if it woud be possible to go with part sand/part gravel substrate. Like have an area of about 1/3 of the tank as sand and the rest as gravel. I'm planning to get black gravel and try and find some black sand (because the plant substrate I use is black) so if a wee bit of mixing goes on it hopefully shouldn't look awful! ~Just wondered if it's a stupid idea or whether it could work quite well.
I also wondered if anyone could tell me the best way to keep the sand clean? I'm presuming that my gravel vac would just suck all the sand out if i used it the same way as i do for the gravel!!
Any ideas/advice would be great!
Thanks
