Hi,

After having my tank set up the same way for years I have been thinking of changing the substrate from gravel to sand. I want to have the tank fairly heavily planted so was wondering how good sand is at anchoring plants.

I have a Rekord 60 whish is as standard as the day I bought it. Currently the tank is stalked with; two harlequins, two cherry barbs, ,a panda cory and three shrimps.

I welcome your advise.

Hi Ian.
Im all for the sand swapping :good:. See if you can find a sand which isn't very fine. A grain size a bit larger, so the roots of the plants have something to grab hold of. It would be wise to find some malaysian trumpet snails so they can churn the sand preventing any dead spots.

alot of aquascapers also use sand where it will be seen by dividing it from the planted area and using a good plant substrate for the planted area for max results. however i think its okay to go 100% sand also, just might have some pockets where the sand needs to stay stirred to prevent other problems..
