Hi,

Is it true that it Would be better to put 1-2cm of gravel underneath another 1-2 cm of sand on the top? I want a planted aquarium but all this oxygen/CO2 stuff is a bit over my head. i want easily mantained plants that wont grow like mad. love the look of amazon swords. want amazon swords with a few higher bush ones along the back and corners....any sugestions?

Thanks

I just use laterite under sand. There is no real need to put gravel underneath. You could even just go 100% sand if you like, but your plants will need some kind of fertilisation from the water column.

Amazon swords are primarily root feeders, so you could always just use root tabs which will introduce ferts directly to the roots of the Amazon Swords.

Dave.

i use laterite under my sand too(2cm laterite and gravel mix topped with 3-4cm sand), works a treat. My Vallis and tiger lilys are growing well with sand.
