Does anyone actually have a glass bottom? that would look so... er... bad. No plants, plastic bases for fake plants, the whole thing would be one big mirror.
I do, in some of my betta tanks, and in my fry tanks (mostly). I like it.

I have plants - floating plants, and loads of java fern growing on bogwood. I also usually put a smooth, medium size river rock or two in.

I have 4 tanks and 3 of them have sand. I'm treating the other tank with gravel for a bacterial problem..but soon as I am done with the treatment (2 days) I will be switching their tank to sand as well.

I really like sand better...I find it so much easier to clean and junk doesn't get stuck..it just stays on the top!

Yep I definetly have gravel, because A) it was free, B) when I first started looking into fish keeping and reading about it, I read about how anaerboic (sp?) bacteria and gases could build up and poison the tank unless you had a fish that would constantly stir up the sand, which I wasn't planning on, C) I put in gravel and got fish and now that I have cories would like to change but don't want to mess up the equilibrium of everything as all the fish seem to be doing quite well, even the cories, (though i do think the gravel is a bit big for them, it's not huge, but it's not very small and fine either, poor cories, guess they'll have to wait for a new tank before they get sand, (which may or may not be a while we'll see if I get a place off campus next semester, or next fall)

Sand. I recently switched from gravel when I was redoing my 46 gallon. My 5 gallon is bare; it's much easier to clean that way, and the bettas don't really care either way.

Most of the large ones (and some of the betta tanks) have sand. About one third have gravel.
