Hello everyone, i am going to buy my first tank next Sunday and have read many great ideas on this forum regarding everything possible, and getting very confused.
My question today is regarding the substrate, sand or gravel.
The tank will be for tropical fish.
Also thanks for the previous advice on the Aqua One tank.

hello :good:

the substrate really depends on what fish you plan on stocking, what filtration system you plan on using (under gravel or not) and how much maintenance you are willing to put in.

sand is a common favourite as is is belived to lower the risk of harbouring germies underneath and amongst it. However it can be awkward to clean.

sand is also slightly more expensive than gravel. If you are planning on having a planted aquarium then gravel is likely to be your only option.

the type of fish you plan on stocking can play a major role as some need sand and others simply prefer gravel.

sorry ive not been a great help - but hopefully you get the idea :good:
