Hi Everyone,

I would be interested to see a poll of results of who favours 3mm gravel or sand in a planted tank. I can't set one up please can someone set one up for me? and post it on the forum

Thanks

gravel would work best, or substrate made for planted tank

sand is a inert and has nothing, and could cause impaction on the roots
but go with substrate made for planted tank

Hi thanks for your response, I will be using Tropica Plant Substrate underneath. I still would like to see a Poll setup though just to see the overall results

I don't know where you've been reading but gravel whatever size is as inert as sand. If you want to put some nutrition below either then you have benefits, but where did this statement get its research.

Go look at JamesC journal who uses inert san and then look at others who use inert gravel.

They are equally inert and this post is therefore misleading.

p.s. In my opinion sand is much better to look at. the bottom dwelling fish seem to like it more (from experience watching them in both substrates) and I have Tetra below my sand.

I find sand better, easier for the plants roots and much better for any bottom dwelling fish, I'll set up a poll :).

problem with sand it gets on the plants...anywhere cuz w/ just a lil bit of movement it goes everywhere , I now have fine gravel :good:
