Sand Life Span

Im just wondering how long can you keep the same sand in the tank for, would you need to remove your sand after a year say and change it for new clean sand? i normally hoover my sand then i dig it over so the bottom layer get to the top. bit of a strange question i know but its not something ive come across on here

I've never changed my sand, and I've had one aquarium set up with sand for about 10 years now I would have thought. Not sure if its good or bad but I hanv't noticed any ill effects.

i cant see any problem with having sand indefinately, as long as it gets the poop syphoned off it and the occasional stir every now and then to remove gas pockets then it should be fine ad infinitum
I've personally sand sand in a tank for 2+ years with no problems currently
