i have at last decided to convert my 75gal tank to sand.....within the next 2-3 months or so....

I did some ringing around today to get prices....black sand seems very hard to find!!! But i found some.....at $8 per 10kg bag. The question now is how fine do I want the sand to be? The place I called said they have 0.8, 1, 2, 3, 4mm......I figured it would be smaller the better?

But I am not sure.....

Any help would be appreciated!!!

When they say 0.8mm, are all grains roughly of that size, or do they contain lots of dust-like particles? Sands are only problematic if they are too fine...

I have play sand which is probably less than 1mm in size but it didn't come with any of these fine particles so they are easy to take care of. On the other hand, I also have tanks that uses pool filter sand, which are typically 2-4mm in size and they are even easier to take care of than play sand. They do not trap any messy remainings.

I'd go with 0.8 or 1mm IF the grains are indeed of those sizes...
