Sand In External Filter

hi all,
 
i am using sand for the first time and finding that sand is getting sucked up into my external filters.
 
just asking how high others set there strainers from sand to stop this?
 
i have mine set one about 40mm above the sand and the other i have just raised to about 50mm.

Mine's something like 70mm from the top of the sand, and have never had any sand getting sucked into the filter, you could always try throttling down the flow rate of your filter if the problem persists.
