i am planning on setting up a tank that i just added small black "spectra stone" gravel. and i need to either get another bag.. or add some sand ? i was thinking plain white sand, would anyone dissagree that this would look nice ? i will have some green plants, driftwood, rocks and a two sided black or blue background, so let me know what background you like with the option you choose, all black gravel or gravel and sand !
( i'll have yellow labs and electric johanni )

If you add sand and gravel together the sand will go to the bottom and the gravel will merely sit on the top. I would go with all sand and no gravel at all.
Not mine. I have a sand gravel mix in my tank. I suppose it depends how much gravel is going to be used.

You can see in this picture that there's both altough not very much gravel in this patch to be fair.

I do with sand on two sides and rock gravel in the middle. It looks good intially but IMO it just didn't last which is why two thirds is now sand.

I have a tank with a mix. I have it in my Cory and Loach tank. The Loaches like to play with pieces of gravel, and move them around (seen them do it) and the Cories and Loaches needed sand for their barbels and for scavenging...so I compromised. I have it mostly sand, with some bigger pieces of gravel on top for the Loaches, and mixed in. :) I kind of like the way it looks...I think it looks more natural then just sand or gravel, but that's just me.

If you've ever watched cories on gravel then watched them on sand you'll see how much they prefer the sandy bottom.
I was amazed watching for the first time.

i use both to create a mix where the spectra stone meets sand and shows a difference from gravel to sand purposely. some say it will mix eventually but im hoping to keep them seperate. it looks okay,
