Sand From Beach

hi all

ive seen some tanks with what looks like normal beach sand and am wondering could i use sand from a clean beach?
maybe bleach and rinse it?
thx for any replies

Personally I recommend Argos play sand.

yeah play sand is cheap enough and at least you know its 100% clean and not contaminated in anyway. you dont know whats been put/sprayed/spilt on it on the beach.

I wouldnt put anything that has been in the sea into a freshwater tank.

Beach sand will be from coral or bits of shells and will raise your pH and hardness plus will most likely be full of salt. It's just not a good idea and might even be illegal to harvest it without a permit or license.
