My LFS suggested I use aragonite coral sand for my tropical tank but I'm a bit concerned as I thought it was for brackish, marine or african cichlid.

Please could someone clear this up for me as I was about to clean the sand for a small community tank for tetras and livebearers.

Thanks!
Pete

Argonite will send your pH up to about 8.2, not good for most tropicals as most come from south america in low ph and hardness, two things you cant get ahold of with argonite.

Alot of fishkeepers use play sand for children.

Sorry to be thick but what's the difference between play sand and beach sand??

According to that link above I could use crushed coral which would only put PH to 7.6ish?
