just looked at the sand as substrate in the guide, and it says use around 1cm of sand to stop any deadly gases.
my fish shop i bought from said abot 1-1.5", iv got in-between that in my tank, iv got 8 live plants.
they also told me to disturb the bottom every few days?

do i need to take some sand out?
im doin a fishless cycle at the min

Nah, go for a nice thick layer, i cant find the thread but there are explanations about these "gases" and youll be ok. Just stir it up a bit when you do your water changes if youre worried.

Ive got sand and ive got about 2 inches at the back and about an inch at the front.

thanks for your help, have you had any probs? how long you used sand?

Im still fishless cycling, but im not worried about it in the slightest. Lots of people here use thick layers of sand without problems.
