Sand Costs How Much?

i have a thirty gallon tank how much would it be to buy enough sand for my tank?

depends what you used, my first tank i used playpit sand and i got waaaaaaaaaaaay more than enough for about £6 i think

I got mine from argos it's £2.49 for a bag of playsand, only have a diddy (24 ins by 8ins)tank so it did that and it's no doing a pretty good job covering every other surface of the house courtesy of the kids

Thats good to know... When I finally have a place and a steady job I want to put together at 75ish gallon tank. I'd like to do sand this time around because I'm sick of gravel..

I have a 30 gallon also, I just picked up a 50 pound bag from Home Depot for $3 American, that seemed like the perfect amount of sand (still had some left over, but i didn't add a lot of inches of sand to my tank0

For aquarium sand, you're looking at up to $1/pound. The most expensive ones are the black tahitian moon sand, with most of the others running somewhat less. It's still the most expensive option.

For general purpose sand, like what you get from a hardware store, it can be about $0.10/pound and sometimes a bit less.

Pool filter sand runs somewhere in the middle.

I think the general rule of thumb for a starting place is ~1 pound/US gallon. It is going to depend on how deep you want it and the shape of your tank though.

that seems to be what most freshwater people on this forum use for sand. it just tends to be dirty and needs to be rinsed well before going in the tank

Thats going to save a lot of pennies! Ive seen a 15k bag in Argos for £2.49! Will two bags be okay for a 190 Litre tank?

ok i will have to make a trip to home depot in the next week or so. what type of sand should i get?
