does cat littler rise above sand? if so what other substrate could i use which is good for plants+sand?

thank's =] now do i just stream dirt caped with sand or cat litter....

Well its close to 3 months now that i've had it setup and i've not had any problems, i think i may have put too much sand in as its quite deep and im unsure if the roots have managed to dig down to the clay yet, at least with the plants at the back. But, that said, its a hard question to answer, i cant exactly give you a performance rating. Last night was the first time i've ever done a "vac" on the tank, but thats only because i lifted up a large chunk of bogwood which had a few bits of wood and dead plant matter under it. I just took it out and sucked up all the bits and plopped it back in. There is very little mess on the substrate, the circulation in the tank stops it settling.

Would i do it again? if i had Corys/earth eaters...yes...otherwise, no, i would spend £100+ on a planted substrate.

usefull info =] im about to get a 2f tank off a friend (no clue what lights / filter it has). at the moment its got massive flints for the substrate. im thinking of going planted in it. not sure of a scape but iv got to house 40 odd guppies while i do it. (there coming with it) so it look's like my weekends booked up. i want it planted but im not sure with the lights i'll have to look when i get it

got sand for it today. wandered what i could put under it it... or if it's needed (i might get mud out of my stream again)
