Hi Everyone,

I am wanting to put around 100 lbs of sand in my refugium to aid my reef tank. I have lots of live sand in my reef tank. I was wanting to use cheap "raw" sand and let my reef tank populate the raw sand in the refugium over time. Is mortor, play or other sand safe for tank or any other recommendations for live sand alternative?

how many cups of sand does it take to reach 100 lbs.... Lets say it takes * amount

Find * amount of reefers in your area

Ask all of them for a cup of live sand, why would they say no?

There you go, it was all for free  :shifty: :hyper:   :shout:

Gas prices may ruin the whole free part.......

Or if you have patience get some dry aragonite sand and wait a while for it to become live.....

Agreed. If you want to find cheap aragonite sand, take some vinegar to your local home improvement or garden center, take some small samples of their play sand and put them in the vinegar. If they fizz and bubble for more than a minute, its aragonite, if not, it's silica. If you're in the States I can save you the trouble; Kolorscape sand at Lowes or Home Depot is aragonite
