Same water?

Ok, so today I think I might get a gold fish. Well, maybe a betta. But, can I use the same water in my tank for my betta bowl? I wouldn't have to cycle it.

The water in your tank will not cycle anything. It is the bacteria that builds up in the filter, gravel, on plants and decorations that cycles the water. If you are using a bowl with no filter you will not cycle anyway. Just use declorinated water and do regular water changes. (I hope your bowl will be at least one gallon.)

For a 1 gallon bowl i sure hope your not getting a goldfish, they will most certinaly grow way past the potential of 1 gallon bowl if allowed to. Definitely stick to getting a betta instead.

I would definitely go with a betta rather than a goldfish as the goldie will outgrow the bowl very quickly. You need a minimum of 20 gallon for a goldfish. Also, as previously stated, water won't help with the cycle. If the bowl will be filtered, you can take some gravel or filter media from the tank and us it in the bowl. That would contain the bacteria you need to start the cycling.

Ok. Yeah, This thread might be deleted because I started a similar one in the betta section. But, this is wehat I'm gunna do.
Fill the bowl half way up with tank water.
Fill the rest of the bowl with fresh water
Add betta
sit and watch
sit and watch some more
go downstairs to get pepsi
while downstairs, get distracted by computer, and forget about betta. Tonight at 11:30pm remember betta
feed beta
go to bed
fall asleep
forget betta
remember betta
feed betta
love betta
forget betta

If you do get a gold fish, keep in mind they need a pretty good size tank.
