Do you think I should go with another inch of flourite, or should I go with an inch of Onyx black, or eco complete black.
I like the idea of the ecocomplete/Onyx black sand, but then I'll have a big mess of three types of substrate in here.
I like that black look to the tank bottom, 3 of my tanks have a black sand substrate, the rest are white course sand or as in this case flourite over a white sand base.

To do, or not to do.....or what to do?

Stunning...Its a jungle in there!! lol...I think it looks okay there, but your right, you dont want a big mess either...hmm..

Well your plants seem to be doing ok as is. What a great tank. Are you sure you want to pile more substrate on over that nice patch there?

Thanks Nospherith

I would pull the pygmy chain and dwarf sag out first.
Actually I would take most of everything out first then lay the new substrate and replant.
Jeez, i've alreday done that once.
I'm thinking I may just leave it the way it is.....asides from some rearranging of the plants and a nice new peice of mopani I plan on putting in the tank this weekend.

If I had my tank looking that good I'd tie my hands together and make sure I didn't spoil it. I'm sure that new mopani's gonna look great.

lol, thanks Nospherith.
We're all our own worst critics.
That new peice of mopani I speak of is going to fill in the middle part of the tank, give it a more structured look, with the dwarf swords, pygmy chain and dwarf sag growing in, under and behind it.
'Gotta wait till the weekend though, too tired after working to play around in the water. :D

Nice lookin tank, to be honest i wouldnt add anything to it, it looks realy natural.
Must admit im toying with the onyx for my 60L, just got to get time to do it lol.

I like the look of black sand... WOW that's an amazing tank! what type of plants do you have in there? do u use co2? how big is it, do you have a lot of watts over that tank? How did your tiger lotus get so nice and big under all that shade?

Its a 40 Gallon.
The tiger lotus was actually in a different tank that was low lit.
It took about a year for it to grow that big, very slowly.
When I first got it, I put a light beside it (on the side glass) and it threw lillies to the surface literally every two days, it grew so fast, but so did the algae. -_-

Just recently I put it in this tank to "liven" it up a little, and after a month in the shade its starting to show ill effects, so I'm gonna move it to a brighter spot.

My lighting consists of the exsisting duel 20 Watt 24 inch "Power glo" flourescents, and a Hagen duel 20Watt "Glomat" with 1 18 inch aqau glo flourescent and 1 18 inch life glo flourescent.
Lighting is pretty basic but its doing a great job so far. :D

As for plants theres a lilacina in the front left thats nearly dead :/
water sprite
various microsorum's
Various crypts
tiger lotus
anubius
Hydrocotyle leucocephala (dont know the common name, had to look this one up on the net)

I should of kept all those identity tags in the pots
