just been to lfs and bought 2 cardinal saluwasi and 4 crystal red shrimp. i intend on setting up a proper shrimp tank as soon as i have cleared 1 of my tanks. i have a small tank running with shrimp and snails but want to make a nicer home for them!
i have the shrimps listed above also pinochio red nosed shrimp, cherry shrimp, amano shrimp and tangerine shrimp. will these all live happily together? i dont want any cross breeding but wouldnt mind some babies if poss.
can anyone advise me on temp, water flow etc etc as i am new to shrimp except cherry and amano which seem happy in any water....
their new home will be an aquaone ar620 2ft wide and quite tall so should look pretty good when its finished.
any help would be gratefull

OMG they are stunning little shrimp, mind me asking how much, as the last time I saw them for sale they were 12quid each + P/P.

PIn is the best place for info on them ?C Shrimp

Cardinal shimp require warm hard water and crs need cooler soft water. I think tangerine shrimp also do better in harder water.

This site has some good info http://www.planetinverts.com/

cheers for the link mate very usefull :good: my water is hard and high pH so i should be ok with the cardinals and the tangerines seem to be doing ok so far, the cherrys and amano ive had for ages so i know they will be ok.
so its just the crs that may be a bit out of their comfort zone i guess.... i have them now so will add them and see how/if they can adjust

OMG that is an Amazing Price for those shrimp, Guess i will be going there at the weekend

Indeed this is an exceptional price for a Cardinal - I would think that this was wrongly priced by a "saturday boy...."!!!!

Im sure by now you will have gained all the info you need regarding these shrimp and their care however Id just like to reiterate what has already been said regarding the hard water requirements of the Cardinals - all Sulawesi shrimp require hard water - this link will help http://sulawesi-shrimp.blogspot.com/ your other Neocardina species will be fine in pretty much any environment and quite happy in much lower temperatures too - I breed shrimp and all my shrimp tanks containing several thousand individuals of varying species are happy in my hard water (ph around 7.4) and dont require any additional heating as the ambient temp in my fish-house (Malawi breeder) is around 74f and the shrimp breed quite happily constantly. My shrimp tanks are air driven as internal filters will suck in the shrimpletts and many will not survive. A strong tip for long and healthy life of your shrimp is to conduct 10 - 25 pct water change every week but CLEAN THE SUBTRATE thoroughly as shrimp waste is very small indeed and will work is way to the bottom of the gravel/subtrate and fester. I have display tanks with different subtrates - crushed coral, Black, Red etc (none make any difference to the overall colour of the shrimp) but the majority have nothing in but Java-moss which makes keeping a spotlessly clean environment for them possible....it doesnt look pretty but I breed to sell and need them to be 100% healthy all the time.

Hope this helps
