Saltwater Tank Advice?

i want to make a saltwater tank with no saltwater experience, any tips/advice?
oh is sand mandatory?

No need to post in two different sections, you will get an answer but it may take a day or so for people to have logged on. The Marine section of the forum has a smaller following than the freshwater section.

VictorMeldrew gave you some advice, also at the top of this subforum there is a section called Marine reference section, have a look at the articles in there.

Sand is not mandatory, it is usually used for aesthtic reasons but people do run very successfull bare bottom tanks.
