starting to take an interest to marine tanks and was wondering what are some of your folks diy set ups
ie filtration, lighting

i think one of the best parts of a tank is getting it set up and making things such as hardware

its alot more satisfying when you've made the purty tank as opposed to buying the whole thing IMO but hell if you have the money why not!

I totally agree. I try to do this.

the only things I wouldn't make are skimmers etc as if you get it wrong, you won't have efficient skimmin which i believe to be very important (unless you are using algae as nutrient export instead). I have made a calcium reactor, refugium, all the weirs, the sump and the cabinet for my tank. If i had £8000 to spend on a fish tank, I'd much rather buy all the parts and build my own than buy a systemised aquarium such as a deltec which look great and work well, but you can get a lot more reef for your money by doing it yourself not to mention the satisfaction. with deltecs its plug and play which I'd rather not do. I can post pics of some of the things i'v made if that would help.

ste :)
