Salt question

I have mollies, platies and guppies...I was wanting to add some salt to the tank. I have a pleco and a cat fish....it says not to add salt that has scaleless fish in the tank... is that what a pleco is? If so does anyone know of a algea eater that I can put in the tank if there were salt in it?

Shrimp(ghost and amano) are okay with some salt but are not okay with adult live bearers b/c they will nip and pester them.

Plecos aren't tolerant to salt.

hey i have a pleco in my 35g tank and i have added salt a number of times and he has been fine. i also have a loach in the same tank. the pleco should be fine if u add a little bit of salt

When you say cat fish is that a Cory Cat? If so I would worry more about it than the Pl*co. I have trance amount of salt in my tank with Pl*cos and Corys but I would never go over that. More with the Cory Cats thoe.

what is trace amounts? can I get an example? 1/2 teaspoon per gallon
