hey all,

Im new to keeping tropical fish and on friday i added some fish to my 35 litre tank (3 guppy's(2 males 1 female), 2 sword tails (male and female) and some neon tetras).

Last night i noticed a build up of a white solid on the female sword tails lip. I know i can get some anti fungus medicine to cure this problem but i've read a lot of posts that say salt will cure this problem which will be a lot less hassle to the fish.

Being new to keeping tropical fish i don't have a clue on what salt to use, how much and where to get it from. I got told that sword tails don't mind a bit of salt in a tank but what about the other fish, i don't want to harm them or stress them out at all.

sorry if this question has been answered before but i have looked and cant find any thing

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum. You should use aquarium salt. You can get it at the fish store. Ask in the Emergency section and they can probably give you better advice as to what you are dealing with and how to cure. Good luck.

Thanks il put it in the emergency forum now.

while aquarium salt is fine to use, it's also massivley overpriced when all it is is plain salt.

you just want sodium chloride, look at the supermarket, check the ingredients in the salt and make sure that's all it is, no caking agents etc.

Do you know how much to use i.e. how much per litre or gallon??
