you couldn't have known it was there; the thread title is less than enlightening. ;)

i'd not put more than a couple of pinches. if you aren't careful, you could very easily salt-shock her system; improper acclimation to salinity is almost always fatal. it isn't essential to put salt in with guppies, so don't bother if you have any salt sensitive fish in your community (most loaches, any other scaleless fish, cory cats, plecos, most Amazon fish)

I agree she dosn't really need it.

actually, trace amounts of salt are supposed to be quite good for guppies, especially in easing the birthing process. i just want to point out that salt content is an easy thing to screw up and kill a few fish with if you put too much in. 1 tsp to 10g is a reasonable amount, but again NOT WORTH IT IF IN A SALT-SENSITIVE COMMUNITY.

if its a livebearer only tank and you're good with maths, maintaining a trace amount of salt could be quite beneficial. the hard part is only putting in as much salt as you've taken out when doing a water change. however, a good review of high school chemistry would help you figure that one out. one wrong step could lead to very bad things of course... its a bit of a risk, but what isn't?

Believe me the only thing that's helps in giving birth is pain relief.

just a note...on most of the salt containers i have seen they recommend one rounded tablespoon full per 5 gallons....although i have never really put in THAT much, I don't believe one teaspoon per 10 gallons will do much of anything...

IF you're gonna do it at all do a little less than recommended (GRADUALLY - do NOT add it all at once) - but like everyone else said if you have any salt-sensitive fish do not even bother

i dunno wilder... did you *try* the salt bath? :p
No was on a drip, wouldn't let me out of bed.

Salt won't harm them i only use it if they are ill, so it works on them, you could add abit if you have no scaless fish.
